For instance, at a birding festival in June of 2016 Ingrid and I were on a birding walk with renown birder Greg Miller (the Jack Black character in “The Big Year”). For 90 minutes we saw nothing . . . no reflection on out guide . . . there were simply no birds to be found. Finally we left the group and headed back to the car, intent on trying another location.
As so often happens, the parking lot was alive with birds and we spent the next hour craning our necks as warblers and vireos danced in the trees around us.
Yesterdays at Great Salt Bay, this scenario repeated itself once again, as we were delighted to see a Snow Bunting before we even got out of the car.
The rest of the excursion was almost birdless (although we picked up a Tree Sparrow and Kinglet) in our travels.
