Today was not a birding day, we had some family business to take care of and we drove up to Mount Vernon in the middle of the state of Maine.

Of course on the way home we stopped at a few of our favorite spots  . . . a pasture on the family farm and pond in Dresden.  While we saw no new “First of the Year ” birds . . . but lots of great views and photos, highlighted by a flock of Cedar Waxwings in Dresden.

The Maine State Bird . . . the Black Fly was out in force.  Ingrid got driven back to the car on both visits.  I of course am much tougher . . . and stood up to the insect on-slaughter for at least an extra minute.
