Today’s expedition was to Popham Beach to perhaps pickup a Green-winged Teal or a Snow Bunting. How did we do? Think Cleveland Browns . . . we failed miserably. We did manage to get a few nice photos of male Red-breasted Merganser; saw a the usual winter selection of Scoters, Eiders and crows but nothing exciting.
While on the topic of excitement: the State of Maine Birding community is in a frenzy over the Great Grey Owl being seen daily in Milford. Birders are making the trek to the small town twenty minutes north of Bangor, having remarkable success sighting the rare visitor and getting remarkable photos. We were unable to commit to making the trip today (2 plus hours) . . . but if the Great Grey Owl is still being seem next Sunday . . . we’ll be there at sunrise.
