December 12, 2017 – Dark-eyed Junco

Dark-eyed Juncos are one of our more common birds but they rarely visit our feeders (and then only on the ground).

This morning after a minor snow storm, I sprinkled some black oil sunflower seeds on our deck . . . and the Juncos were all over it.

One Junco just couldn’t keep the snow out of his mouth.

Also . . . on Sunday Ingrid and I drove by a bunch of Mallards in Damariscotta. Ingrid insisted there was something else in the flock. I of course knew better. This evening I looked at the photos and sure enough an American Wigeon is clearly visible. Ingrid is now going to be impossible to live with.
