Maine Birders in California (Day 2)

Anna’s Hummingbird

On day #2 in La Grange, California . . . we got down to some serious Birding. (Day 1)

Ingrid went on a hilly 6 mile run in the morning and got a lifer . . . a Mountain Bluebird. I spend a couple hours walking the roads and meadows near our son and his girlfriend’s house and picked up three lifers a Phainopepla, a Golden-crowned Sparrow and a Black Phoebe.

In the afternoon the kids (who know very little about birds) took us over to a nearby river and were amazed at the quantity and diversity of species.  In an hour we saw an Anna’s Hummingbird, a dozen Yellow-Rumped Warbler, a Spotted Sandpiper and a dozen other birds . . . pretty remarkable for happenstance.
